March 12, 2019 0

The WSTA conference is held under the theme «Water in the GCC .. Challenges and Innovative Solutions»

Kuwaiti Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Hamid Al-Azmi said on Tuesday that Kuwait is pleased to host the 13th Gulf Water Conference on “Water in the GCC Countries: Challenges and Innovative Solutions” in the context of its vital interest in the promotion and protection of water resources.

Al-Azmi said that the conference is an important platform to support and enhance GCC cooperation and integration in exchanging future visions, discussing water issues and encouraging new ideas to meet the challenges related to this vital area and taking the necessary steps towards the integrated management and conservation of water resources to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The most modern technical applications are suitable for the conditions of our environment to meet the requirements of the present and ensure the needs of future generations.

Al-Azmi added that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries will depend mainly on desalinating seawater in the provision of fresh water and will continue to rely on this resource as long as the water conditions of the region continue and this requires further work in developing desalination technologies and industrialization in the GCC countries Associated with increasing production, reducing cost and avoiding adverse environmental impacts.

In addition, the development of wastewater treatment technologies to expand the reuse base in specific areas, including agriculture, is an important way to manage water resources and rationalize their consumption while pursuing assessment and reduction of water losses and the use of artificial intelligence to achieve this.

Kuwait believes that working together as a single bloc in the development of affordable and sustainable solutions will achieve great success in meeting these challenges and enhancing water security in all GCC countries.

For his part, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdul Latif Zayani said at the conference, “I have the honor, at the outset, to convey to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Amir of Kuwait and to the honorable government and people of Kuwait. Which the State of Kuwait attaches to its joint Gulf action and its sincere efforts to strengthen Gulf solidarity and strengthen the system of joint GCC action. ”

Al-Zayani said that the GCC countries are working hard to preserve and diversify water sources. They have established major projects to provide water through desalinating seawater because they realize that their nature and location are essential for their development and development. Geographic areas do not allow them to provide the required quantities of water to meet the requirements of urban development plans and projects and growing population growth.

Al-Zayani added that since the establishment of the Council 38 years ago, the GCC countries have witnessed a great and unprecedented development which required a double effort to provide the citizens and residents with electricity, water and means of living. However, the scarcity of water resources in the region has remained a major challenge to the GCC governments. The increasing economic and social activities imposed by the requirements of the overall development process.

For her part, Director General of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Dr. Samira El Sayed Omar said ” I welcome all of you at the opening of the Thirteenth Gulf Water Conference, which the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) is honored to host and organize in cooperation with the Society of Water Science and Technology and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council. «Water in the GCC .. Challenges and innovative solutions» On behalf of all of you, I would like to thank all of you, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, for his generous patronage of this conference. Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute.

She also added that the scientific research is the basis and the basis for comprehensive and sustainable development, which is best able to meet the urgent challenges of our societies and to develop solutions to their problems, including those related to water in our Gulf countries, which are similar in environmental conditions and all suffer from water scarcity and rely almost entirely on water desalination Sea water supply and high demand for water is in close proportion.

In this context, scientific research centers in the GCC countries are implementing projects that are very important and characterized by the quality of their outputs. The strengthening of cooperation between these centers and the implementation of joint research studies and the exchange of information, data and results will achieve comprehensive successes. The first step is to build this cooperation by organizing the first workshop on “Integration of Water Research Centers in the GCC”. I would like to call on these organizations to continue to organize these workshops and to be held periodically in the GCC countries to achieve the integration of research activity and soil Taha and achieve joint applications of the outputs of the Gulf Water Research Centers.

For his part, said the president of the Society of Water Science and Technology Engineer Abdul Rahman Al Mahmoud ”

We meet today in the State of Kuwait, the land of love and peace, and in the hospitality of the Commander of Humanitarian Action His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir, may God protect him for his homeland and his people, and he cares about human concerns and is keen on the security of the region.

Al-Mahmoud renewed our meeting today at the 13th Conference to emphasize the importance of the event that the GCC Society for Water Science and Technology has been keen to hold to be an opportunity to meet officials and decision-makers with researchers, experts and specialists in various water sources and multiple aspects of their uses. In the context of the conference’s axes regarding the management of groundwater, surface and desalinated water resources, its diverse uses, its linkage to the health, environment and energy sectors, and proposing solutions and alternatives to various issues, which undoubtedly represent a challenge in our modern era. Consider the growing growth in demand for water to meet needs for all purposes and quality.

Al-Mahmoud stressed that the Scientific Committee, which has been in cooperation with various international and regional organizations, researchers and reviewers, has developed a comprehensive program in the specialized plenary sessions, training courses and special sessions, including in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the GCC on the future of desalination in GCC countries. The Standing Committee for Water Resources The exhibition accompanying the conference will also be an opportunity to learn about what the participating parties are presenting to their latest activities in this vital field.
