Under the patronage of the Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs HE Mohammed bin Salim bin Saeed Al-Tubi, the Omani Water Association organized a symposium on “Sustainable Water Management in Fragile Mountain Ecosystems” during the period 12-13 April 2017 at the Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar in Nizwa in Al-Dakhlia Governorate. WSTA participated in the symposium by the presence of Mr. Abdulrahman Al Mahmoud, President of the Association on behalf of the Board of Directors.
The seminar aims at exchanging information, knowledge, experiences and successful practices among researchers and specialists from government agencies, decision makers, academic and research institutions, the private sector, NGOs and the community on aspects related to the sustainable management of water in the mountains of Amman. As well as to identify challenges and propose appropriate solutions and options for applying innovative technologies to improve water use efficiency and sustainability in mountain areas, raising awareness of the importance of conserving mountain ecosystems and applying the concept of integrated water management in mountains.
The delegation discussed several topics, the most important of which are hydrogeological characteristics and their impacts on water resources, water use of various activities in mountain areas, development of traditional and non-traditional water sources in mountains, environmental assessment and the impact of climate change on mountain water resources, Sustainable water management in mountains. The symposium, which will last for two days, will be attended by a number of experts and specialists to review more than 20 visual presentations. This is the 12th symposium organized by the Association in the Sultanate’s governorates, which focuses on various topics related to water and means of development, management and conservation in sustainable ways.
The Oman Water Association was established in 2010 and is a non-governmental, Omani association dedicated to water issues in Oman.
